A few days ago, my husband and I received the most amazing mystery case. It's called Ravenhearst Unlocked: Collector's Edition, and it's being sold at Walmart for $14.97. The game is a first person adventure game where you take on the role of an FBI agent who must solve a series of murders in an old mansion by delving into the dark past of the family that built it. While you're there, you must also find out what is hiding in the catacombs, and what the connection is between your evil ancestor and an ancient cult. Between each chapter of the game, the player is rewarded with a mini-game to help with the progress of unlocking hidden items within Ravenhearst Manor. The mini-games are called Puzzles of Fate, and they consist of one of three things: matching three images using logic, assembling fragments of an object using deductive reasoning, or completing a classic puzzle on a grid. These mini-games are incredibly fun, but I wish there were more of them! It's especially disappointing because they're not available in any other version of this game. The game is full of great little details and easter eggs that add to the atmosphere and enjoyment of the adventure. There is a hidden room off in one of the main hallways that can be accessed by pulling a handle just enough to see it. There's also a note in there that explains something about the history of Ravenhearst, which adds even more mystery to what was already an interesting storyline. Unfortunately, this Collector's Edition doesn't come with any collectibles or other extra content besides the actual game itself. However, the game has a gallery with concept art and screenshots, as well as music that can be listened to in full or in part. The game itself is long and very enjoyable. However, it does have some flaws. It took me about 14 hours to get through it once without getting stuck or getting frustrated with the puzzles. There were only two parts where I actually had to use a "hint" feature, because I just couldn't figure out what to do next and there was no other way for me to advance the plot than to use up one of my hints. Those places were early on in the game, so they weren't too much of an issue for me personally. Overall, I recommend this game to anyone who wants a long and enjoyable point-and-click horror adventure. The puzzles are fun and challenging without being frustrating, and the story is interesting and the voice acting is pretty good as well. However, if you're expecting a simple "run here, click that" type of experience from this game, it may come as a disappointment.
